Perry appoints Cedar Park resident to pension board

Gov. Rick Perry recently appointed three members to the State Pension Review Board for terms to expire Jan. 31, 2015. The board assesses pension funds in need of corrective action before the problems become critical, according to a state press release.

Scott D. Smith of Cedar Park is vice president of investments for Wells Fargo Advisors. He is a member and past president of the Capital City A&M Club. He is also a past member of the Brazos River Authority Board of Directors. Smith served in the U.S. Navy and received a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. He replaces Shad Rowe of Dallas.

Paul Braden of Dallas is a partner at Fulbright and Jaworski L.L.P. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Dallas Bar Association and Texas Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the Paso Del Norte Group Membership Committee and a past member of the United Way of El Paso Board of Directors. Braden received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dallas and a law degree from the University of Texas. He is being reappointed and will continue as vice chair of the board.

Wayne R. Roberts of Austin is associate vice president for public policy at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is former state budget director under governors Perry and Bush, and budget advisor to former Lt. Gov. Bullock. Roberts received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public affairs from UT. He replaces Shari Shivers of Austin.
