Congressman Lamar Smith to speak at Concordia University Texas Nov. 9

AUSTIN — Concordia University Texas will welcome Congressman Lamar Smith to campus Nov. 9 to address faculty, staff and students on serving in the public square from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
“We are honored to have Congressman Lamar Smith visit Concordia University Texas to share his leadership experience with our students,” Tom Cedel, Concordia University Texas president, said. “Congressman Smith’s career is a testimony to public service.”
Congressman Smith represents the 21st Congressional District, including portions of Bexar and Travis counties, and all of Comal, Real, Kerr, Bandera, Kendall and Blanco counties. More than 650,000 people live in the district.
A senior member of the Texas Congressional Delegation, Congressman Smith has been named one of the 100 most influential people in Washington by the "National Journal" and one of the nation's top "influencers and innovators" by "Fast Company Magazine."
Congressman Smith also serves on both the Homeland Security Committee, which considers legislation involving the war on terror, and the Science and Technology Committee, which has jurisdiction over renewable energy policies, environmental research and America’s space program.
Representative Smith is a member of the House Republican Steering Committee, which appoints members and chairmen of committees. He is a former Chairman of the Ethics Committee and a former member of the Budget Committee.
A fifth-generation Texan, Congressman Smith graduated from Yale University and Southern Methodist University School of Law.
