AUSTINToday Wal-Mart released the first renderings of its 99,000 sq. ft. Northcross store, which is expected to be complete by this fall.

The company first announced its plans to build in the North Austin shopping center in 2006, but was met with community disapproval. The company compromised with neighborhood concerns by downsizing the facility from its originally proposed 200,000 sq. ft. plan and agreed to close the location between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

According to a document released by Wal-Mart officials, the new facility will incorporate energy-efficient features, including the use of natural lighting, incorporation of low-flow toilets, and recycled materials to reduce energy and water consumption and simultaneously minimize waste. Officials say the new store will also operate a recycling program and promote sustainable product purchases.
