Seton, St. David's competing for STAR Flight headquarters

Eastern Travis County residents to share neighborhood with mining site

During a heated debate, Travis County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 to allow cement supplier Texas Industries to begin mining operations east of Highway 130. As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, residents of this area, many of who are low-income minorities, have been fighting a nearly yearlong, uphill battle against the largest cement supplier in the state. The issue, taken before the commissioners on roughly five occasions, came to an emotional climax on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

County commissoners work toward acquiring new downtown real estate

During executive session last week, Travis County commissioners voted to purchase a downtown building for general governmental use that could possibly house the Commissioners Court, as part of the central campus master plan. Its location at 700 Lavaca St. and proximity to other city buildings attracted county staff to the 15-story, 315,000-sq.-ft. space that's two blocks away from the county courthouse.

Williamson County partners with CTRMA for Toll 183A bicycle and pedestrian path

The Williamson County Commissioners Court voted to approve a partnership with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority to pursue funding for a bridge across South Brushy Creek to connect the existing Brushy Creek Regional Trail with the planned Toll 183A shared use path. The resolution passed by Williamson County pledges their support for CTRMA as it prepares to submit an application for federal funding from the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program.

Capital Metro ends rail operations and maintenance contract with Veolia

On Wednesday, Capital Metro announced it had terminated rail operations and maintenance contract with Veolia Transportation due to contractual requirements that are said to have burdened the transit authority. The termination will not affect the MetroRail commuter line’s early 2010 startup date, officials say.
