Concordia adds MBA program this fall

Concordia University Texas announced plans to launch a Masters of Business Administration program March 2. Enrollment begins immediately and the deadline for classes that begin this fall is July 1.

Grand Opening of the Joseph and Susanna Dickinson Hannig Museum

The grand opening of the Joseph and Susanna Dickinson Hannig Museum will be held on March 2, Texas Independence Day, from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum, located at 411 E. Fifth St. The museum will feature stories of the women and children survivors of the Battle of the Alamo in an exhibition that will include never-before-seen items from private collections, in particular from the Esparza family, whose ancestors played a pivotal role on both sides of the Texas Revolution.

AISD releases preliminary budget for 2010-11

Two northwest Austin seniors nationally recognized in Coca-Cola scholarship program

Two students from northwest Austin’s Hyde Park Baptist High School, 11400 N. MoPac, were named semi-finalists in Coca-Cola Scholars program—a national award that identifies seniors who exemplify leadership and service in secondary schools.

Anderson High School to display rare copy of Declaration of Independence

One of 25 surviving copies of a rare broadside of the US Declaration of Independence is scheduled to be on display in North Austin’s Anderson High School, 8403 Mesa Drive, on Feb. 5. Community members will be able to view, for free, this historic document from 5 to 7 p.m.

AISD trustees approve changes for graduation requirements

At its Jan. 25 meeting, Austin School Trustees approved changes to high school graduation requirements, beginning with students entering ninth grade in 2010–11. The Texas Legislature and State Board of Education have given school districts the opportunity to allow more flexibility in graduation requirements—specifically with changes to the technology, health and physical education requirements.

Taiwanese students, teachers visit Anderson High School

Eighteen students and two teachers from Taichung, Taiwan, arrived in Austin this week to begin a three-week student exchange visit with Anderson High School. The exchange is a result of a year-long relationship between Austin and Taichung through the Austin-Taichung Sister Cities Committee, part of Sister Cities International.
