Bob Daigh, Austin District engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation, submitted his resignation April 1 announcing his plan to retire at the end of April.

"The goal of most Texas Department of Transportation employees is to work with wonderful people to accomplish great things on behalf of the citizens of Texas. As the Austin District Engineer, I have had the joy of experiencing this, working with you and achieving our goals on behalf of Central Texans," Daigh said in a letter sent to TxDOT Austin District employees. "Therefore, it is with some reluctance and remorse that I have today submitted to the administration a letter announcing my intent to retire at the end of April 2009."

TxDOT will be posting his position and someone will be appointed to the position of Austin District engineer in the interim.

"He's been a great leader and he's gonna be someone that we're going to miss," said Chris Lippincott, spokesman for the government and public affairs division of TxDOT.
