Jersey Village increases water rate
Jersey Village increases water rate

HOUSTON — Jersey Village residents will see an eight percent increase in their monthly water bill beginning Jan. 25 to offset City of Houston water rate hikes.
Danny Segundo, public works director for Jersey Village, said the price increase is because of the city’s conversion to surface water. Houston has no water pricing controls, Segundo said. Jersey Village will absorb another eight percent increase until next year so as not to burden residents further after a three percent water rate increase in December 2009.
Segundo said the city will lose money by not passing on the full rate increase to residents, but Houston provides cheaper water than the North Harris County Regional Water Authority, which charges an added service fee.
Jersey Village is part of NHCRWA’s plan to convert at least 30 percent of its area to using surface water by the end of this year, a mandate from the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District.
