SBA loans spur Houston economy

Tasked with creating more jobs and pouring dollars back into the economy, the U.S. Small Business Administration Houston District Office used a portion of the 2009 stimulus package to increase its loan guarantee from 75 percent to 90 percent and waived all borrow fees to promote economic growth in the community.

Watch parties celebrate for different reasons

Supporters celebrated former Houston Mayor Bill White’s early lead and victory in the primary polls at his watch party at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Earning 76 percent of the vote, White easily defeated challenger Farouk Shami, a self-made millionaire who financed his own gubernatorial campaign. While the crowd began to swell after 8 p.m., the party remained small with only several hundred people in attendance.
