Watch parties celebrate for different reasons

Supporters celebrated former Houston Mayor Bill White’s early lead and victory in the primary polls at his watch party at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Earning 76 percent of the vote, White easily defeated challenger Farouk Shami, a self-made millionaire who financed his own gubernatorial campaign. While the crowd began to swell after 8 p.m., the party remained small with only several hundred people in attendance.
