ROUND ROCKDell Inc. announced Nov. 5 that it has completed its offer to acquire Dallas-based company Perot Systems, agreeing to purchase more than 90 percent of the company’s shares in a deal worth $3.9 billion. The acquisition will create a new corporate unit called Dell Services, which will develop information technology services for business customers.

The addition of Perot Systems will expand Dell’s focus on applications, technology, infrastructure, business processes and consulting. Perot’s customers include clients in health care, government and other commercial segments, from small enterprises to large global institutions.

Peter Altabef, Perot’s CEO of five years, will become president of Dell Services and will report to Chairman and CEO Michael Dell. Altabef will be responsible for Dell’s commercial services—including consulting, sales, marketing, quality and customer relationship management functions—and the company’s internal information technology.

The company did not provide a date for when the acquisition will be finalized, but once the deal goes through, Dell Systems will continue to operate in Plano, Texas.

Dell will report its third-quarter fiscal results Nov. 19.
