Construction to change traffic routes on Pflugerville Parkway beginning Dec. 2

PFLUGERVILLETraffic on Pflugerville Parkway will switch to the two newly paved north lanes from Railroad Avenue to Marfa Lights Trail starting Dec. 2.

Detour signs will be posted at the intersection of Grand Avenue Parkway and A.W. Grimes Boulevard and the intersection of Tobermory Drive and Picadilly Drive. Traffic will be reopened on Wilke Ridge Lane and Shultz Lane.

The Pflugerville Parkway construction project began Nov. 14, 2008, and includes a series of improvements from Great Basin Avenue at the Highland Park subdivision entrance to Greenlawn Boulevard in Round Rock.

Road changes effective Dec. 2 include: • The west end of the traffic swap, just east of Marfa Lights Trail, will be striped to divert traffic onto temporary paving on the south side of Pflugerville Parkway (west of Grand Avenue Parkway).

  • The intersection at Grand Avenue Parkway and A.W. Grimes Boulevard will be striped to reroute traffic onto the new lanes.
  • The intersection at Tobermory Drive will be closed and detoured out to Picadilly Drive.
  • The traffic signals at Heatherwilde Boulevard will be moved to line up with the new lanes.
  • The westernmost driveway into Hill Country Bible Church (across from Wilke Ridge Lane) will be closed, and Wilke Ridge Lane will be opened to traffic.
  • Detours on Wilke Ridge Lane and Shultz Lane will be removed and traffic will be opened onto the streets.
  • The transition east of Great Basin Avenue will be striped to reroute traffic onto the new lanes.

“Most importantly, we want drivers to be cautious because we are changing the accessible lanes which will cause changes in the traffic pattern,” Development Services Director Trey Fletcher said in a statement. “Currently, traffic is traveling on the south-side lanes. The change will move traffic to the north-side lanes and cause some detours which may require local residents to examine their best route.”

When complete, the new roadway will be a four-lane street with a concrete hike and bike trail on the north side and a sidewalk on the south side. A traffic signal will also be installed at the Grand Avenue Parkway and Pflugerville Parkway intersection. The Heatherwilde intersection will be realigned at Pflugerville Parkway and include traffic signal improvements. Schultz Lane will be realigned and will no longer tie into Pflugerville Parkway.

The new alignment of Schultz Lane will tie into A.W. Grimes Boulevard north of the Pflugerville Parkway and Grand Avenue intersection. The project is on schedule for completion by Dec. 24, 2010.
