Whitfield to seek second term on Round Rock City Council

ROUND ROCKRound Rock City Councilwoman Kris Whitfield announced Jan. 29 she will seek a second term on the Round Rock City Council in the May 8 election.

Whitfield was elected to Place 6 on the council—her first three-year term—in May 2007.

“It is truly my honor to serve with my current council members and to work for the citizens of Round Rock,” Whitfield said in a statement. “It has been exciting to see the growth and success of our city even during these tough economic times. I look forward to helping Round Rock to continue to thrive as a community.”

President of the Round Rock check recovery company CheckSmart, Whitfield serves on the YMCA of Greater Williamson County board of directors and the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Round Rock and Ascend advisory boards.

She is a founding member of the Round Rock ISD Education Foundation and Women Impacting the Nation, a nonprofit designed to encourage and empower women through education, activism and philanthropy, and serves on the boards of both organizations.

A supporter of the arts, Whitfield is a founding member of the Round Rock Area Arts Council and serves as vice president of the organization. She is also government relations director for the Williamson County Symphony Orchestra and a board member for the Penfold Theatre Group.
