You can already see progress on the construction of the Texas A&M Health Science Center in northeast Round Rock. The beginning of construction was celebrated Nov. 20 as the University Boulevard corridor continues to expand.

While stores have closed in other markets, Pflugerville has seen an increase in sales tax revenue. The casual observer can see that retail is booming in the eastern part of the city as new stores open on FM 685 and along the Toll 45 corridor.

On another note, we are proud to partner with the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and begin the 2009 Impact Awards. Readers have the opportunity to nominate Round Rock businesses for excellence in four categories, and award winners will be announced during a special event at the La Frontera Marriott Hotel Feb. 10.

A great way to help your community flourish is to serve as a volunteer. We have included a listing of various opportunities on page 16. As we look forward to a new year, it is fitting to reflect on achievements that have been made in our community and consider taking a more active role.
