At one of the Round Rock Business Women’s Luncheons, Beth Lambert with styleshaker.com talked about image. She emphasized the importance of leveraging something unique about yourself and utilizing it as your signature or trademark that people recognize. Immediately, our market editor Amy Stansbury looked over at me and said, “We know what your trademark is — your hair!”

Just as professionals and businesses market themselves, cities have perceptions to manage as well. It is the idea that once there is a synergy developed around a concept such as sports, the businesses in the community benefit from the local attraction as the tourists come pouring into the city.

Perception is so important that Pflugerville plans to shape its image too. The city council formed a new committee to determine what the city’s image is and what should be marketed in the future. It will be interesting to see if Pflugerville gets a catchy tagline that drives the economy in a new way.

Elected officials help determine the direction and image of their cities, and Community Impact Newspaper has provided an election guide in this issue to help readers as they go to the polls for school board and city council elections on May 9. Check out the results on impactnews.com/vote09 that will be posted by the minute as they are tallied.
