A common thread in both Round Rock and Pflugerville seems to be planning for the future. Presented during the Round Rock mayor’s quarterly report was the plan of making Round Rock a City of Choice. The city aims to focus on four main themes to prepare for the year 2060: high performance government, places and spaces, safety and security, and economic progress. At the same time, the City of Pflugerville will hold its next comprehensive plan public input session July 9. The comprehensive plan is designed to guide growth and development in the city for the next 20 years.

Our community also places value on planning for the future of our children, and if you are a parent in Pflugerville, take a look at the performance scores of your child’s school on the center spread of this issue. (Round Rock parents, look for our RRISD feature in August.)

Speaking of planning, I have made plans of my own to stay at home with my daughter. During the past few years, I have worked to inform an area that grew from 58,000 mailboxes to more than 75,000 mailboxes today. Round Rock and Pflugerville have experienced significant changes in the areas of shopping, education, medicines, entertainment, recreation and art. I am eager to see the fresh ideas the next general manager will bring to the paper, and I know Community Impact Newspaper will continue to be my main resource for local news.
