1. Shopping Center Includes Starbucks
Located at FM 685 and Pfluger Lane by the new Wal-Mart Super Center, a 200,000 sq. ft. shopping center named Pfluger Crossing will open this summer. Tenants will include Starbucks, Chase Bank, Bank of America, Great Clips, Taco Bell, Capital One and Applebee’s. For more information about leasing, call 435-6550.
2. Computer Graphic Company Opens
Now open at 15803 Windermere, Trinity Arts Company specializes in hand-drawn and computer graphics for architectural marketing, Web sites and presentation. 3. Streets Renamed
The Pflugerville City Council voted to change the names of First Street to Russell Street and Second Street to Caldwells Lane in the Colored Addition Subdivision to avoid confusion with the conflicting First and Second streets in Downtown Pflugerville. The Russell and Caldwell families were of the original residents of The Colored Addition, located on FM 1825 in West Pflugerville.
In 1978, Travis County Commissioners attempted to change the name of the Colored Addition to the Western Addition, but failed to gain approval from residents.
4. Education Celebration
To celebrate the school district’s 70th year, the Pflugerville Education Foundation is hosting a Jeans & Jewels Celebration March 31 in Pfluger Hall, 203 E. Pecan St. Teaching grants will be awarded for $20,000. To purchase the $40 tickets, contact Deborah Porter, 594-0028.
5. Albertson’s Building Filled
A non-denominational church, Calvary Chapel is trying to move from its Austin location to the vacant Albertson’s building on Pecan Street. Available Scholarships
Graduating seniors interested in scholarships from the Rotary Club of Pflugerville should contact their counselors at Connally, Hendrickson and Pflugerville High Schools for more information and an application form. Deadline for applications is April 9.
6. Construction at Swenson Farms
Developers are building a 24-acre detention pond at the southwest corner of Swenson Farms Boulevard and Pfennig Lane in conjunction with the neighboring apartment project. The project is designed to help with flood control along Gilleland Creek and should be finished by the end of this spring. While a retention pond always has water, detention ponds only hold spillover.Trammell Crow Residential is also constructing around 375 apartment units in the first phase of the project.
Storehouse Fundraiser
The Pflugerville-based food pantry, The Storehouse, will host the Charity Golf Classic III at Lost Creek Country Club April 2. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental, range balls, dinner and prizes. Individual players cost $125 and four-person teams cost $500. Last year, The Storehouse helped more than 20,000 people. To register for the event or to sponsor, call 773-9495.
7. Funeral Home
Beck Funeral Home, at 1407 Priem Lane near Toll 130, celebrated their grand opening in February. The Beck Family has provided funeral services to the Round Rock area since 1983.
8. Extreme Sports
Intensity Sports at 15301 N. IH 35, Ste. L opened in February, selling paintball goods, in the Bella Norte Shopping Center next to Custom Sounds. For more information about the extreme sports store, call 670-9403.
9. Martial Arts

10. Day Care Opens
Capital City Kids Daycare & Learning Center will open their second location at 1900 Gregg Lane, Building A Ste. 1. Their first site is at 13107 Dessau Road where they teach and care for ages 0 to 11. For more information, call Ralph Mendoza at 251-9951.
11. Chamber Event
The Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce will host A Night of Stars, their annual dinner and awards ceremony, 6-11 p.m. March 24 at Falcon Pointe Resident’s Club. For information about tickets and sponsoring tables, call 255-7799 by March 9.
12. Print Company’s Ribbon Cutting
Standard Paper & Graphics at 4674 Priem Lane, Ste. 101 celebrated their ribbon cutting Feb. 22. The printing business offers a wide variety of services to both individual customers, as well as large businesses.
