1. All stars

All Stars Unlimited Gymnastics and Cheer, a locally owned youth activities organization operated in the Clay Madsen Recreation Center since 2002, moved into a new facility at 3810 Gattis School Road in January. 2. Batter up

The City of Round Rock celebrated the opening of a newly renovated baseball and softball complex March 29 at Old Settlers Park, 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd. The facilities received numerous upgrades in recent months, including improved seating, shade structures, lit batting cages and new playgrounds. Visit www.roundrocktexas.gov.

3. Scott & White Healthcare

The Scott & White University Medical Campus, 300 University Blvd., changed its name in February to Scott & White Healthcare - Round Rock. The 68-acre facility includes a 72-bed hospital and a clinic. Call 509-0400 or visit www.sw.org.

4. Upward progress

Classes at the new, locally owned learning center, Upward Bound Montessori, 201 W. Bagdad Ave., will begin April 20. 5. Personal renewal groups

Full Circle Coaching and Consulting will hold its first Personal Renewal Group session in Round Rock from April 8 to Sept. 8. Mothers can attend the six-workshop series focused on addressing their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs. 6. New county annex

Williamson County leaders are scheduled to break ground on the new precinct one Round Rock Annex, 1801 E. Old Settlers Blvd., April 23 at 10 a.m. The new facility will house the offices of the precinct one commissioner, justice of the peace and constable, as well as space for EMS, a sheriff’s office substation, the tax office, the health district and possibly others. 7. University awarded grant

Texas State University’s Round Rock Higher Education Center, 1555 University Blvd., received a $476,000 federal grant in March, funded by the 2009 omnibus spending bill recently passed by Congress. 8. Store closings

(a) Sportsman’s Warehouse announced it will close its Round Rock location at 3202 S. IH 35 by mid-May. The store will have a liquidation sale, discounting items by as much as 30 percent until all merchandise is sold. Call 218-8880 or visit www.sportsmanswarehouse.com. (b) The Thinking Cap toy store closed in February after a year in business at 105 S. Mays St. The 1,350 sq. ft. retail space is available. Call 576-0607 for leasing information. 9. Bealls and ribbons

Bealls department store held a ribbon cutting March 19 at its new location in Stone Hill Town Center, 18700 Limestone Commercial Drive. The Houston-based retail chain previously relocated from 1420 Wells Branch Parkway, Ste. 600, which was in the Austin extra-territorial jurisdiction, the new location is in the Pflugerville city limits. 9. Chick-fil-A

The first Chick-fil-A in town will open April 23 at Stone Hill Town Center, 18617 Limestone Commercial Drive. The restaurant, which is closed on Sundays, has other locations at IH 35 and Toll 45 in Round Rock, and at IH 35 and Parmer Lane in north Austin. Visit www.chick-fil-a.com.

11. Emerging agency

In business since January, HC Insurance Agency officially unveiled its new offices at 401 W. Pecan St., Ste. B, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 19. Agent and co-owner Michael Hosick operates the business, which is affiliated with Nationwide Insurance and offers auto, life, commercial property and other types of insurance. 12. Upscale salon

Stylin’ Salon and Spa hosted a grand opening celebration March 27 at its new location in Pecan Street Market shopping center, 2606 FM 1825, Ste. 110. Freddy’s Frozen Custard, which opened March 24, Starbucks and Lone Star Kolaches are also located in the shopping center. 13. Alexan Star Ranch

14. Church ground breaking

15. Feed the neighbors

Volunteers and local community leaders met Feb. 27 to celebrate the re-opening of the Reaching Out Food Pantry, located at Snappy Snacks Mobile Catering, 15630 Vision Drive. 16. Commercial property

The developers of Dessau Center, a new retail center opening this summer at 308 Dessau Road, plan to complete a second building on the property by early 2010. The new building’s floor plan will mirror that of its counterpart, and a commercial lot between the two could eventually be occupied by a bank or restaurant. Tree House Kids Day Care, located next door, is expanding in the first building, and national gym franchise Fitness 19 is also scheduled to open there in early summer. 17. Pflugerville Town Center

Developer Tim Timmerman is developing a portion of Pflugerville Town Center, a retail project on the east side of FM 685 across from the Pfluger Crossing shopping center and Wal-Mart. Walgreens and IBC Bank will occupy buildings on the property, but neither business has begun construction and no timeline has been set. SCC Development is at work on another portion of the center, a 23-acre tract with future tenants including Discount Tire and McDonald’s. 18. Automotive centers

Car-X Auto Service plans to open two new locations in the area by this summer. (a) One branch is expected to open by May near the St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. (b) Another is scheduled to open at 1009 FM 685 in Pflugerville in June. Call 258-3400 or visit www.carx.com.
