1. Lab location

A new draw station of the Doctors General Laboratory opened at 16010 Park Valley Drive, Ste. 300, behind the St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. The laboratory offers quick lab results that include toxicology and other specialized testing. Call 996-0900 or visit www.dglinc.com.

2. New Vision

Husband and wife team Dr. Javier Zamora and Dr. Debbie Zamora celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Advanced Eye Care and Surgery facility at 501 E. Palm Valley Blvd. on May 11. The 9,300 sq. ft. facility is scheduled for completion in November 2009 and will be one of the only facilities in the area to house both an optometrist and ophthalmologist. Call 248-2424.

The Texas Education Agency recognized Round Rock ISD and McNeil High School for innovative ways state money was used to improve high school graduation rates and prepare students for college. For more information, visit www.roundrockisd.org.

Water tight

The Round Rock City Council approved an updated Waterwise Program that encourages residents to water only twice a week or less on designated days. The updated plan asks for people to water in the early morning or late evening and not on Mondays because it is the designated water plant recharge day. Sing, sing, sing

Amy Mathews-Muttwill, an area voice teacher and classical singer who teaches private singing lessons out of her home, offers a summer voice camp for children ages 6 through 12. 3. Food for thought

If Kaleidoscope Toys, 1601 S. IH 35, Ste. 325, can collect 10 barrels of food items by July 31, it will make a $500 donation to the Round Rock Area Serving Center. Kaleidoscope Toys will also be hosting Family Fun Nights Fridays at 6:30 p.m. during the food drive and admission is a food donation for the serving center. Visit www.kstoy.com or call 388-5048.

4. Mind-body connection

Lea Rhoden PhD is now Round Rock Sanctuary. The business, which offers mental health and career counseling, began offering yoga and Pilates classes in April and moved to 1050 Meadows Drive. Classes such as pre- and post-natal, infant and family yoga classes are available. The first yoga or Pilates class is free with the purchase of a pass. Drop-ins are welcomed. 5. Farmers market

The Brushy Creek Farmers Market opened in May for the summer season and is held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 16318 Great Oaks Drive. 6. Quinns

7. Pampered pets

An upscale pet salon, La Mia Bella opened in May at 3778 CR 123, Bldg. A., Ste. 3. The pet groomers have more than 10 years of experience and offer high-end products and services. Call 244-9191.

8. Roof tops

Family owned Castle Roofing and Construction opened in April at 107 W. Main St., where the business’ sister company Soleil Floors is located. Castle specializes in roofing and home remodels, and owners Willie and Stephanie Hendrix bring more than 20 years of construction experience to the business. 9. Nifty thrifty

Laura Sledge from Caldwell Elementary and Jerry Karacz from Kelly Lane Middle School were named Pflugerville ISD Teachers of the Year during the district’s employee recognition banquet May 6. The district also recognized teachers at individual campuses, outstanding humanitarians and support staff.

The historic Dessau Hall, 13422 Dessau Road, was restored to its original décor with refurbished red walls, crystal chandeliers and a 3,000 sq. ft. dance floor. 18. Pantry people

Sandra and Jack Cochrun, owners and creators of The Storehouse Food Pantry, 1202 FM 685, Ste.
