Round Rock ISD will open Cedar Ridge High School in the fall of 2010, which will relieve crowding at Stony Point High School and allow the Stony Point Ninth Grade Center to be repurposed as a middle school. The RRISD bond, which voters passed last year, will fund a new elementary school in the Stone Oak neighborhood to relieve crowding at Cactus Ranch Elementary, phase two expansion of Round Rock High School and renovations to Westwood High School.

With new schools come boundary changes, and the RRISD board of trust-ees is considering three high school boundary options.

A Citizen’s Boundary Committee was formed in January to review the proposed boundary adjustments and make recommendations to the board regarding those proposed adjustments. Steve Laukhuf was named chairman by RRISD Board of Trustees President Diane Cox.

The committee was divided into groups by the four high schools’ feeder patterns while considering campus boundaries for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school years.

The Citizen’s Boundary Committee is charged with ensuring that campus boundary changes provide an optimum attendance pattern for each school affected while considering campus demographics, district growth and the financial impact of the proposed changes, particularly related to transportation.

The school board is expected to vote on the boundaries in April.

Public hearings

The boundary scenarios for elementary, middle and high schools will be presented to the public at a series of boundary hearings, one at each high school.

• Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. - Stony Point High School, 1801 Bowman Road, Round Rock
• Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. - Round Rock High School, 300 Lake Creek Drive, Round Rock
• Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. - Westwood High School, 12400 Mellow Meadow Drive, Austin
• March 3 at 6:30 p.m. - McNeil High School, 5720 McNeil Road, Austin
