The ribbon cutting ceremony for Stone Hill Town Center's newest retailer, SuperTarget, was held March 3 with hundreds of members of the Pflugerville community in attendance, including many of the store's new employees' family and friends. Representatives from the City of Pflugerville, city council, chamber of commerce and school district were also present.

Grand opening of SuperTargetNewQuest Properties is developing the million sq. ft. shopping center at the southwest corner of Toll 45 and Toll 130. The Home Depot, Best Buy, Verizon Wireless, Mattress Firm and SuperTarget are open at Stone Hill. Bealls and Office Depot are expected to open later this month, and Dick's Sporting Goods is scheduled to open this spring.

Mayor Jeff Coleman said Stone Hill is one of only a dozen large developments opening in the U.S. this year. The city and the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation have been working with NewQuest to plan the development since 2006.

"If you go to the Target website on the store locations page, they put a bullseye where their stores are," said Charles Simon, Pflugerville economic development director. "I've been waiting to see that bullseye on Pflugerville for a long time."

The Pflugerville SuperTarget is one of 27 Target stores opening nationwide this week. The general manager of the Pflugerville store is local resident David Aguirre. He has already hired more than 200 employees. The crowd cheered loudly when Aguirre approached the podium to thank the community for support and the employees who helped prepare the store for its opening over the past six weeks.

Aguirre also discussed Target's involvement in the communities in which it operates.

"Since Target was established in 1962, we have always given five percent of our pre-tax profits back to the community," Aguirre said. "That is $3 million a week."

Target's Take Charge of Education program allows Target Visa credit card REDcard holders to designate an eligible kindergarten through twelfth-grade school to receive a donation of up to one percent of the amount of the cardholder's purchases.

SuperTarget's hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
