The City of Round Rock will host the annual Spring Cleanup Week April 18-24. Round Rock residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous waste items as well as large bulky items not typically collected by the city’s waste disposal program.

On Saturday, April 18, Round Rock residents will be able to bring hazardous chemicals to the Recycle Center at 310 Deepwood Drive. The center will be accepting items such as paint, pesticides and fertilizers from 8 a.m. to noon. Visitors should bring a copy of a current City of Round Rock water bill to display proof of residence when they drop off items.

During the following week, the city will pick up larger, uncommon items with residents' normal trash on regular pick-up days.

“Residents love the service,” said Lisa Smith, Round Rock Refuse dispatcher. “People call in to ask about dropping off some item and we tell them about this week and they get really excited."

Bulky items available for pick up include scrap metal, lumber, furniture, mattresses and appliances that do not contain Freon. All materials should be placed neatly at the curb. There will be quantity restrictions and items that cannot be taken during regularly scheduled pick-up days may be picked up during the next scheduled garbage day. People with questions about qualified items should call Round Rock Refuse at 255-4980 for clarification.

“We can’t post a list of acceptable items because anything you can think of people will ask about,” Smith said. “Sometime people want to drop off a car frame or the bed of an old pick up truck, but that stuff needs to go to the junk yard.”

The city will not be picking up tree limbs or brush piles, but those items can be taken to the Recycle Center. There is no fee for Round Rock residents with less than two cubic yards of brush.

Other items that should not be placed by the curb include televisions and computers. Residents can find out recycling options for these items at www.roundrocktexas.gov/recycle.
