Round Rock to participate in historic preservation campaign

Williamson County Commissioners voted April 28 to proclaim May as National Preservation Month as part of a nationwide celebration. The City of Round Rock will be participating in the campaign with an open house and photo showcase June 30 to highlight historic buildings and landscapes. The event will also provide information about preservation programs and activities in the city.

The proclamation is part of the publicity campaign “This Place Matters,” sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The nonprofit organization is dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America’s communities.

During the Commissioners Court meeting, officials encouraged residents to photograph their favorite local areas that they feel are important to preserve and highlight the area’s history. Round Rock officials are asking interested participants to submit photos and explain each destination’s historical importance. Submissions will be accepted through May 31.

Select entries will be displayed at the “Places and Spaces That Matter” open house from 5 to 7 p.m. The open house will be held at the Allen R. Baca Center at 301 W. Bagdad Street, Bldg. 2 in Round Rock. For information on submission guidelines visit www.roundrocktexas.gov.
