Jesús Chávez competed against four other superintendents in region XIII to receive the title of superintendent of the year. The recognition qualifies him to compete against other regional winners to be named Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards.

“I am honored to represent Region XIII at the state level and thankful for the incredible Round Rock ISD team that I have the privilege of leading,” Chávez said in a press release statement. “I am just one of many superintendents who are committed to ensuring all students will learn.”

The award was announced June 16, and candidates were selected for demonstrating strong leadership, dedication to improving the quality of education, commitment to public support and involvement in education. School boards nominated superintendents for the award, and this is the first time a Round Rock ISD superintendent has been nominated for TASB recognition.

Chávez will be interviewed with other regional winners to advance to the state selection committee in August. The state winner will be announced October 3.
