Travis County offers fewer voting locations for November election

AUSTINEarly voting for the Nov. 3 Joint Special Election begins in Travis County Oct. 19, at 7 a.m. Voters across Texas will have the opportunity to cast a ballot on 11 proposed constitutional amendments, and Travis County voters in four local jurisdictions will have a chance to vote on local propositions as well.

Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said that voters will find some changes in polling places this election and should check the list before heading out to vote.

“We have changed some of our customary early voting sites this election due to budgetary concerns,” said DeBeauvoir. “Facing the prospect of five elections next year, and the possibility of a special election, we are trying to creatively solve the challenge of meeting the needs of voters while conserving tax dollars.”

Twelve permanent early voting sites will be available this election, about half of the number of locations that were made available in the May 2009 election.

To accommodate established voting preferences, DeBeauvoir said the clerk’s office will set up “mobile” voting sites that will offer the opportunity to vote during a more limited time at locations that previously served as permanent sites. The mobile sites change locations on a daily basis.

The clerk’s office will also post signs at former permanent sites directing voters to the nearest voting locations.

Full-time early voting locations are available across Travis County Oct. 19-30. Travis County voters may vote at any early voting location.
