General Manager’s Note — September 2008

When I stepped off the plane in Mexico last week, people immediately tried to sell me tours, tickets, transportation and even a time share.
Each group warned me not to listen to the others, not even the hotel staff. All of this “advice” made me question everyone’s motives. Were they just trying to sell me something? How could I know the truth?
Last month, I received a voicemail from a reader who must have been reading the paper for the first time and wanted to know who was behind it. She was not sure she was going to believe the content until she knew where it was coming from.
I don’t blame her. As I did in Mexico, readers should question the validity of information until they know where it originated. I hope we will continue to earn your trust as you receive the monthly news.
We are a locally owned company with a simple mission: to bring you the absolute best in local, useful information. We intend to present all sides of a story to allow you to make your own assessment. We do not endorse candidates or issues. We have a heart for the reader, and our decisions are based simply on that value.
Community Impact Newspaper is celebrating its third anniversary this month. We have only been in Southwest Austin since April, and if you live in Travis Country subdivision, then this month is the first time you are receiving our paper. In November, we will launch our sixth edition that will serve Central Austin.
While many media companies are struggling, we have put a new twist on an old concept — the community newspaper.
