Austin Community College adjunct professor and former Leander City Councilman Vic Villarreal will serve on the ACC board of trustees after taking 54.85 percent of the vote in the June 12 runoff election. Opponent David Reiter took 45.15 percent of the vote.
In a tight runoff election for Austin Independent School District’s position 9, Tamala Barksdale took the lead with 54.54 percent of the vote over opponent Julie Cowan’s 45.46 percent. Early voting totals showed Cowan ahead of Barksdale by a narrow 49 votes for the at-large position.
Don Tracy will serve on Cedar Park’s City Council Place 6 after a runoff election that put the workforce education professional against opponent Maria Talamo.

He is on the board of directors of the Austin Chamber of Commerce and is on the board of directors for the Austin/San Antonio Chapter of the Texas General Counsel Forum.

Barksdale was involved in the PTA and served on fundraising and activity committees at the campus level. She worked with Communities in Schools and Austin ISD's Curriculum and Technology Education program to launch mentoring program Austin Ad Fed Shadow Day.

Julie Cowan is chair of the nominating committee of the Austin Council of PTAs. She has three children in Austin ISD schools. She has been president of the PTAs at Doss Elementary, Murchison Middle and Anderson High schools. She has also been president of the Travis County Medical Alliance and co-chair of the St. David's Foundation Alliance. She has served on numerous committees and task forces for the school district. Cowan has been recognized as Volunteer of the Year at TCMA, Doss Elementary and Anderson High.
